Stem separator, straight onto pads.
Drop a song in and get four stems back: vocals, drums, bass, and everything else. Download them, or put all four on TAIL's pads in one click and play the song apart. The separation runs on your device — no upload, no queue, no account.
How it works
How to split a song into stems
Drop the song in
MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, or the audio of a video. Up to ten minutes per song; a longer file is offered a split into parts.
Separate the stems
The four-stem model downloads once (157 MB, then cached). A four-minute song takes about three and a half minutes on a normal laptop.
Four pads, four stems
Download any stem, chop the vocal stem, or load all four onto TAIL's pads — in sync, full length, ready to mute and play.
What producers use it for
What four stems are good for
Vocal stems for chops
The vocal stem is the acapella. Chop it into phrases and syllables and play it as an instrument.
Bass lines and drum breaks
Sample just the bass, just the break. Each stem is its own file, so a chop of one does not drag the others with it.
Remixes
Keep two stems, replace two. Because all four are full-length and in sync, what you keep still lines up.
Practice and transcription
Solo the part you are learning, or mute it and play along. Bass players and drummers get the most out of this.
The four stems
Vocals, drums, bass, other
The model is Spleeter, the open-source separator Deezer published under the MIT licence, running in your browser with onnxruntime-web. It splits a mix into four stems: vocals, drums, bass, and other — keys, guitars, pads, strings, everything that is not one of the first three. There is no separate piano or guitar stem.
Only need the vocal? The acapella extractor uses the smaller two-stem model and is about three times faster. Only need the drums gone? The drum remover sums the other three into a drumless mix for you.
Stems → pads
Play the song apart
One click puts the four stems on four pads of the browser sampler. Trigger them together and you hear the song; leave one out and it is gone. From there each stem can be chopped, re-pitched and sequenced like any sample — the stem separator is the front end of the sampler, not a download page.
What to expect
How clean the stems are
Good for sampling, remixing and practice; not a studio multitrack. In dense, loud passages you will hear some bleed between stems, and reverb tails tend to land in the other stem. Sparse mixes separate better than loud, limited masters.

Common questions about stem separation
Drop the song on this page and press Separate stems. When it finishes you get vocals, drums, bass and other as four files. Download them, or load all four onto TAIL's pads.
Yes. No signup, no watermark, no daily limit. It runs on your own device, so there is no server bill to pass on.
No. The model is downloaded to your browser once (157 MB) and cached; the song is separated locally and never leaves the tab.
About three and a half minutes for a four-minute song on a normal laptop, after the one-time download. No GPU is needed.
Not on its own stem. Everything that is not vocals, drums or bass ends up together in the other stem.
MP3, WAV, FLAC or OGG — pick one before you separate. WAV is the safest choice if the stems are going into a DAW.
